How to Secure Ladder to a Roof
You don’t need anyone to tell you that before you climb your roof, your ladder should be safely secured. It goes without saying. Nevertheless, we will still cover the subject since safety should always be a top priority. In order to fix your roof, you need to get there safe and sound. Even though placing a ladder and climbing it seems like a simple task, it has sent many down to the ER.
How to Secure Ladder to a Roof?
The first and foremost step is to check the ladder to see if any of the rungs are weak, or if there are any damaged areas. Once you have established that the ladder is safe enough to climb, find a smooth, solid ground where you can set your ladder. You need to make sure that the feet of the ladder do not start to sink in the ground as you start to climb.
Once you are satisfied that the ladder is placed firmly on the ground, find a secure object nearby the roof and attach your ladder on to it. Ensure that the ladder is immobile. If need be, ask someone to hold your ladder in case you need added security against slippage. You should position your ladder at an appropriate distance away from the edge of the roof.
Step on the bottom rung of the ladder and put some force on it. Once you feel assured that the ladder can hold your weight, start climbing your ladder rung by rung. Carefully get off the ladder and on to your roof.
Now, this is the tricky part. Once you have fixed your roof and it is time to climb down, carefully advance towards the ladder and put one foot on the rung of the ladder. Make sure you descend by keeping your feet right in the middle of the rungs. Place your hands on the rungs as support while you step down the ladder.
And there you have it. You have climbed your ladder unharmed.
